The change from the swirls to the 8bit design dont go well together. The background should be colored 8bit style more in my opinion.

Thanks for all of the positive responses! I really love drawing swirls and then mixing it up with a completely contrasting 8bit shroom, like an eclectic board. I wanted to create something different, and explore something I haven’t seen on a board yet.

I think the background swoosh behind the mushroom and behind the (clouds?) should be in a lighter color maybe the light blue you have in the mushrooms face so the mushroom and pipe will pop out.

also that way you won’t have to use the drop shadow on the mushroom to make it pop out.

los, I appreciate your suggestion, I agree with the drop shadow, its overused and a cheap trick, so to speak… As for the background I didn’t want to make it too neutral and I wanted to create a really high contrast.

but if we could use more then 5 colors then, I would really like to get into blending and painting with my wacom using the lighter blues you suggested, that would be sweet… Thanks again for your critique!
